MemoryTrain

Spaced-repetition-based memory training app for the Pebble.

See the ChallengePost for the Hack the North entry!

question

We designed this Pebble app for ourselves - busy students on the go, who need to chisel time out of our day to study. What if it were easier to study concepts and have your brain remember them?

Memory training is what spaced repetition software is all about. Memory science has shown that it is most effective to study a concept just before your brain forgets it.This way, your brain works harder to recall a concept, and by doing so the concept solidifies in your memory. Spaced repetition software takes advantage of this recall effect by timing things for you, and showing you flashcard-style questions at specific time intervals so that remembering becomes easy.

Wearable tech like the Pebble is always with you, and makes it easier to stay connected to important information throughout the day.

Why not combine the two?

By creating a spaced repetition app for the Pebble, we enhance the capabilities of memory training software by giving you access to it all day. Every time you check your watch, a concept is displayed to you in order to refresh it in your memory. In response, the wearer simply presses a yes/no button on the watch to tell the software whether or not they remembered the answer. The software does the rest.

MemoryTrain is still a work in progress. We expect to have a working application available for download on the Pebble app store in the near future.
