				O3MiSCID (aka OMiSCID)

I. Description

O3MiSCID stands for Object Oriented Opensource Middleware for Service Communication, Inspection and Discovery.
It is also simply known as OMiSCID. It can be use in C++ under Mac OSX, Linux and Windows (2000 and later versions)
and/or in Java. In this README you will find information about how to compile under Linux/Mac OSX (section II)
and under Windows (section III). You might refer to http://omiscid.gforge.inria.fr/ for more information,
documentations and tutorials.

II. How to compile OMiSCID and build your own program using it (Linux/Mac OSX).

II.1 Installing software

In order to compile OMiSCID, you need the following software :
- scons (http://www.scons.org/) and python installed in your system. Scons is a tool
	dedicated to replace autoconf and make.
- libxml and lixmldev (http://www.xmlsoft.org/downloads.html). OMiSCID uses it in order to validate
	and parse messages.
- Bonjour from Apple installed and running on your computer
	(http://developer.apple.com/networking/bonjour/download/)
- g++, the standard gnu compiler.

In order to install OMiSCID, you can run, *as root*, the following command:

* scons install prefix=/usr/local

In this example, everything related to OMiSCID will be installed using the
'/usr/local' as root folder. You can obviously change it.

II.2 OMiSCID options

OMiSCID can be compiled using several options. Under Mac OSX/Linux, these options
are accessible when invoking scons:
- If you add debug=1 to the command line, you will have some extra checks
	and thus more processing when using OMiSCID. For example, when using a
	MutexedSimpleList, OMiSCID will check that you lock the list before
	accessing to it. New option can be debug=valgrind in order
	to debug using valgrind.
- If you add trace=1, you will have working messages on the standard
	output and error. It may be useful for debugging.
- Using zeroconf=avahi will let Omiscid uses avahi as DnsSd implementation
	(not the mDNS api of avahi). As many problems are still present
	(see CHANGES comments for version 1.1.0), the default is still mdns
	both for Linux and Mac OSX.

You can use either one or both options in your project without any problem.
For example, you can invoke scons in several ways :
* scons install prefix=/usr/local trace=1
* scons install prefix=/usr/local debug=1
* scons install prefix=/usr/local debug=1 trace=1
* scons install prefix=/usr/local debug=valgrind trace=1 zeroconf=avahi

II.3 Compiling your program

Let's say that you want to compile the Accumulator.cpp example available
in the 'Examples' folder (see the tutorial on http://omiscid.gforge.inria.fr/
to understand what this program does). Just go into the 'Examples' folder and
invoke gcc :
* gcc -o Accumulator Accumulator.cpp `OmiscidControl-config --all`

The Accumulator program should be ready to be executed.

III. How to compile OMiSCID and build your own program using it (Windows).

III.1 Installing software

In order to compile OMiSCID, you need the following software :
- libxml and its headers and libs (http://www.xmlsoft.org/downloads.html). OMiSCID uses it in order to validate
	and parse messages. Sometimes, you may also need the iconv library.
- Bonjour and Bonjour SDK from Apple. Bonjour will install the mDNSresponder daemon
	and Bonjour SDK contains headers and lib to build applications.

- Visual Studio (2003 or later, OMiSCID was not tested on previous versions). In the next version,
	we hope also to provide a cygwin support.

All you need in order to compile your project using OMiSCID is to follow these steps:
- unzip the archive somewhere on your computer, let's say in 'C:\Dev\'.
- add 'C:\Dev\OMiSCID\System\', 'C:\Dev\OMiSCID\Com\', 'C:\Dev\OMiSCID\ServiceControl\' as
	additional include folders.
- add all '.cpp' and '.h' files from theses folders abd subfolders to your project.
- add the include folder of Bonjour SDK and of libxml to your project (do the same
	for iconv if necessary)
- say to the linker to link with the dns_sd.lib (Bonjour), libxml2.lib (libxml) and
	Ws2_32.lib (Winsock2) and maybe add the iconv.lib
- say in C++/Language that you want the dynamic information about types (/GR) in order
	to support dynamic cast.

Everything should be fine now to compile your code. You can try to compile the
examples in the 'Examples' folders to check that everything is fine.

III.2 OMiSCID options

OMiSCID can use several options when compiling. Under windows, these options
are accessible using defined values:
- If you define DEBUG (in Debug mode), you will have some extra checks
	and thus more processing when using OMiSCID. For example, when using a
	MutexedSimpleList, OMiSCID will check that you lock the list before
	accessing to it.
- If you define OMISCID_TRACE_ENABLE, you will have working messages on the standard
	output and error. It may be useful for debugging.

You can use either one or both options in your project without any problem.

III.3 Compiling your project

See section III.1 in order to now how to compile your project.
