What is Kolibre? --------------------------------- Kolibre is a Finnish non-profit association whose purpose is to promote information systems that aid people with reading disabilities. The software which Kolibre develops is published under open source and made available to all stakeholders at github.com/kolibre. Kolibre is committed to broad cooperation between organizations, businesses and individuals around the innovative development of custom information systems for people with different needs. History --------------------------------- The software development started in 2002 by Norra Österbottens Svenska Synskadade rf (NÖSS), a Finnish non-profit contact, interest and service organization for visually impaired. NÖSS sought for a solution together with Jakobstads Tidning (today Österbottens Tidning)to modernize the daily talking newspaper which back then was distributed by tape. Since then several projects, mainly funded by the Finnish Slot Machine Association, have been carried out in conjunction with other partners (i.e. Pratsam Ab) to improve and further develop the software for different needs: 2003-2004: Den Digitala Taltidningen, (Eng. The digital talking newspaper) 2005-2006: Digital Service för Synskadade, (Eng. Digital Services For Visually Impaired) 2007-2008: Ett tillgängligt informationssamhälle, (Eng. An Accessible Information Society) 2009-2012: Hjälpmedel för jämställdhet, (Eng. Aids For Equality) What is Kolibre-daisyonline? --------------------------------- Kolibre-daisyonline is a library built for utilizing the daisy online protocol defined by the Daisy Consortium. The library uses defined data structures that are populated via methods defined in the daisy online protocol. This allows the programmer to focus on the goal of the communication, rather than how to create, send and receive the specific messages. Questions and/or suggestions relating to technical development can be sent to dev@kolibre.org. This is a mailing list, through which all members can discuss development; accordingly, only English should be used. The archive is located at https://groups.google.com/a/kolibre.org/forum/#!forum/dev. If you'd like to join the list as a member, please ask for an invite from info@kolibre.org. You can also post to the list without being a member, but then your messages will be moderated and replys might only be received by members. Everything sent to dev@kolibre.org will be recorded in the archive (if not stuck in Googles spam filter or deleted by moderators). Platforms --------------------------------- Kolibre-daisyonline has been tested with Linux Debian Squeeze and can be built using dev packages from apt repositories. Dependencies --------------------------------- Major dependencies for Kolibre-daisyonline: * libaxis2c (see requirements for libaxis2c below) * libpthread * liblog4cxx Requirements for libaxis2c --------------------------------- This component requires that libaxis2c is configured with the flags: --enable-guththila=no --enable-libxml2 --enable-libcurl --enable-openssl and that the patches listed below are applied: patches/axis2c-1.6.0_curl_ssl.patch patches/axis2c-1.6.0_curl_useragent.patch patches/axis2c-1.6.0_ssl_utils.patch patches/axis2c-1.6.0_xml_https.patch Building from source --------------------------------- If building from GIT sources, first do a: $ autoreconf -fi If building from a release tarball you can skip the above step. $ ./configure $ make $ make install see INSTALL for detailed instructions.
