The directories "field_system" contains the current files used to run a
TS7800-based field system, These have evolved from previous systems an
are in a confused and incomplete state.

The script: "field_file_system/usr/lib/bowerbird/ts7800/bin/rc.local"
is run after the system boots from  /etc/rc.local

It launches scripts which capture audio, compress it and saved it to
disk but not otherwise processed.  Scripts also maintain nextg connection
and remove files when disk becomes full.

The script
"field_file_system/usr/lib/bowerbird/ts7800/bin/run_sound_capture"
sets up audio and runs the binary: "sound_capture"
The source for this simple program is in miscellaneous_source/sound_capture/
"sound_capture" runs wavpack as a separate process to compress sound.
It leaves the sound in one minute segments into /tmp/s

A script "mv_wv_to_disk" moves the sound
from /tmp/s to /var/lib/bowerbird/data
This setup exists for largely historical reasons.
 
The directory "s" contains source which processes the sound in various ways
and will be integrated into the field systems.

The configuration is non-obvious "s/makefile" is built by a custom
Perl script "scripts/mk" from files named "Mk" in "s" and its
sub-directories.  You should be able to say scripts/mk target just like
make and if dependencies don't change, make can be used.

cd /home/bowerbird/s
mk test    # generates Makefile and runs make test

One of the binaries it builds "silence_removal" would be a useful test
program.  It reads a sound file and outputs it with any sections not
containing animal calls zero'ed (saves a lot of space in compressed formats)
This does FFTs and some of the operation I'm interested in.

or to using fixed_point FFT

Note it and other programs in the s directory read parameters froma file
name bowerbird_config, which it looks for in the current directory and a
number of standard locations: "$BOWERBIRD_HOME", g_get_user_data_dir(),
g_get_user_config_dir(), "$HOME", "$home",  "../..","..","."
