Repository files navigation

Thankyou for downloading LEAP! Hopefully you'll find it relatively straight-
forward and easy to compile, run and use LEAP. This file should serve
as a good starting point for new comers, and point you in the right
direction.

If you're not happy compiling, you might be interested in the pre-compiled
versions of LEAP for various OS platforms, including Linux, FreeBSD,
Solaris, and Windows.

A new book has been published, which includes a good overview of the
relational algebra, and has a chapter on LEAP. "Theory and Practice of
Relational Databases", 2nd Edition, by Stefan Stanczyk, Bob Champion, and
Richard Leyton, Published by an Taylor & Francis ; ISBN: 0415247020
(Softback), 0415247012 (Hardback).

For more information, visit: http://www.theorypractice.org

This version of LEAP ties in closely with this book. The example database
installed by default (tandp) is taken from the books examples.

For more information, there are a number of files included in this
distribution.

See file `COPYING' for copying conditions.
See file `INSTALL' for generic compilation and installation instructions.
See below for LEAP compilation options.
See also src/README for a quick intro to compiling, and overcoming some
    common problems.
See file `NEWS' for list of major changes to the current release.
See file `INTRO` for a brief introduction to LEAP.
See directory `DOC' for various documents and usage instructions.
See file 'scripts/users/README' for setting up a small footprint installation.

Check that you have the latest version. Check the above web sites, or send
e-mail to rleyton@acm.org. I endevour to release a new version every month
or two.

Join the LEAP mailing list to receive announcements and information regarding
LEAP, and exchange ideas and comments. Visit:

http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leap-announce

to subscribe, or run the "notify" script located in the scripts directory.

Send bug reports to rleyton@acm.org with an adequate description of the
problem: your input, what you expected, what you got, and why this is wrong.
Diffs are welcome, but they only describe a solution, from which the problem
might be uneasy to infer. Also, visit http://sf.net/projects/leap to submit
a bug description.

LEAP Compilation options
------------------------
LEAP supports the readline libraries if they are installed. The readline
libraries allow command line history and command editing. Versions 2.0 and
2.1 are known to work.

For more information see Q2.0 in the LEAP FAQ. This is available via the
LEAP website: http://leap.sf.net

Debug output can also be disabled, see Q2.1 in the FAQ for details, but
briefly run configure with '--disable-debug' and recompile.
