DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:
---------------------------
(Short tutorial has been placed on-line at: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22924817/et-edit/doc/index.html )

E.T. EDITOR is a graphical editor for designing 3-dimensional
graph consisting of coloured edges and triangles.
The main intention is to make the modelling process as direct
as possible without additional hardware required
for stereoscopic vision.
I believe it can be used for many useful purposes
(e.g. designing 3D scenes in computer games).

The graph is represented by following objects:

1. Array of VERTICES; each vertex is placed in a point of 3D space.

2. Array of coloured EDGES; each edge is represented by line segment between
   its incident vertices.

3. Array of coloured TRIANGLES; a triangle is analogue of an edge but
   connects three vertices.

The remaining objects of the editor are:

1. CURSOR: indicates position in 3D space and current colour.
   Its orientation in the scene is fixed.
   The shape of the cursor is asymmetrical to help you find
   your orientation  in the scene.

2. OBSERVER: represents your position and orientation in 3D space

3. SCREEN: represents the view-port (zoom, resolution, etc.)

4. CONTEXT: modifies the meaning of some pressed keys

3. GROUPS: each vertex belongs to a single group
   (denoted by an integer).
   Some actions can be performed on the groups of vertices.

You can manipulate these objects by invoking editing actions.
Most of the actions are invoked by pressing the key while the input focus is
on the graphical window.
Sometimes you have to input a value in the terminal in
which the program is started.
Also some actions are invoked by selecting an item
from text menu in the terminal.
Therefore you should run the program in terminal as a foreground process.

INSTALLING:
-----------

The program requires X11 with GL/GLX libraries.

USAGE:
------
In the directory containing the compiled program type:

./et-edit [filename.et]

You should have downloaded some example data:
the files with extension '.et'.

(Warning: Keyboard CapsLock must be off.)

Some simple tutorial is in HTML file: doc/index.html

USER ACTIONS:
-------------

You start the compiled program with the command:
./et-edit

After starting the program, it opens the window, and reacts on the key press events in this
window.
Occasionally, it needs some text input from the terminal, where it is running.

Type <H> command to print the key actions on the terminal in default mode.
Whenever you switch the mode (F1, F2, ...) the key actions for the mode are
printed on the terminal.

Actions are described in HTML file: doc/index.html

REQUIRED PACKAGES:
------------------
For compilation on Linux Ubuntu:
 * mesa-common-dev
 * libgl1-mesa-dev
 * libX11-dev
Try to use the command:
   sudo apt-get install  libX11-dev  libgl1-mesa-dev  mesa-common-dev

BUILDING IN THE REPO CLONED FROM GITHUB:
----------------------------------------

To build the project automatically, you need autotools and automake packages.
First time after you clone the repository,
you need to run the script:
   ./autogen.sh

Then you may run
* ./configure
* make
* sudo make install # if you want to install this in your system. Otherwise run: ./src/etedit
