Textus Mover is an email system designed to eliminate the meta-data that so many agencies are after. With Textus Mover neither the from nor to fields exist. Encryption is used to determine who a message is to, and the from address is entirely optional. Anyone interested in privacy or anonymity stands to benefit from using Textus Mover. For more information please visit our website at https://www.textusdata.com Installation Before installing Textus Mover, you should verify the source. It is currently available from both GitHub and www.textusdata.com. One potential verification step is to download a copy from both sites and make sure they are identical. Any discrepancies need to be investigated and noted on the mailing lists. We include the source for several of the external packages we use in the Mover repository. You should not trust our versions, but rather obtain a clean version straight from a trusted source. Then verify that our version is the same. We provide the third party code since when building a version to be installed on many systems, it is best to be sure of what version of your dependencies are being used. Feel free to use versions of any of the software you already have installed. If you have an appropriate skill set, you should examine the source code and look for bugs or backdoors. If you find any, please report them on the mailing list and bugzilla. Finally you should subscribe to the appropriate mailing lists, ask questions and post your thoughts. If enough people examine the code, any backdoors or bugs should become apparent. We make no effort to sign the code since you should not trust us anyway. Verify the code. The code stands on its own for better or worse. Building After you have convinced yourself that the source code is legitimate, you are ready to attempt to build Mover. Building mover requires several external programs, including perl, gcc, gmake, and git. To build Mover on a compatible system, type make in the top level directory. If you want to run the unittests type make runtests. The framework assumes that /data is a directory it can write to for logs, spool files, etc. This can be changed on the command line or in a config file, or even editing the default in the source before you compile. You will need a /data directory to run the unittests. When the build is complete, binaries are placed in bin/textus/mover. The third party libraries that are required to run will be under bin/thridparty. The test framework sets LD_LIBRARY_PATH to be able to run the programs. It makes sense to copy all the libraries, and binaries to a single directory and run everything from that directory. In fact, the framework assumes that you will do this. Currently there is no script or program to help you move all the binaries to an appropriate place. It is worth point out two binaries that are built as part of Mover. otp generates random files using the same random number generator as Mover. Assuming you believe the Mover random number generator is sufficiently random, otp is a good way to generate one time pads. The second program is xor. xor is like cat. It copies the file named by its first argument to stdout. However, it xors the data with the contents of the second argument before writing it to stdout. If the first file is longer than the second, xor uses the third, and so on until the first file has been totally copied to stdout. It is an error if the first file is longer than the rest of the files combined. xor could be used to implement one time pads. The first file would be the data to be encrypted, and the rest of the files represent the pad. If you have more questions, join the mailing lists, or use the form. Currently we have three mailing lists, mover-announce@textusdata.com, mover-dev@textusdata.com, and mover-user@textusdata.com.
