I have tested using VS2008 and the Qt4 VS plugin. With this setup, you can just open the vcproj file and build. Other configurations are usable at your own risk.

firenode --udp=<UDP_PORT> --serial=<SERIAL_PORT>

UDP_PORT is typically 3020, and SERIAL_PORT is something like COM1 on Windows and /dev/ttyUSB0 on Linux.
