Hi there! You've just downloaded Pcaster, a parallel ray casting volume
rendering and remote viewing toolset for GPU cluster. It's written in C++.

Full documentation is available inside website/docs_html.zip as well as
online at http://pcaster.net .

Platform:
	Linux, Mac, (Windows coming soon)

Dependencies:
Mpich2, boost, SDL, GL, GLEW(linux), HDF5, jpeg, png,

How to install:
    download tarball: parallel_ofp.tgz
    check out from cct svn:
    svn co https://svn.cct.lsu.edu/repos/clusters/viz/sciviz/code/pcaster_2011

    tar xzvf parallel_ofp.tgz
    cd parallel_ofp
    export POFP_DIR = $(HOME)/parallel_ofp
    make vizws07=1 [dbg=1]
    or
    make [spider=1 | lincoln=1 | longhorn=1 | jgemac=1] [dbg=1]

Note: You see the pattern here, must specify which computer you compile on,
because libpath and incpath are different in each of the computer platform.
todo: maybe should use the automatic configure, or separate options files.
for now let's stick with the simple thing that works.
set dbg=1 means compile with flag -D_DEBUG -- which enables more print outs.
You can also literally add flag -D_DEBUG[1-7] to enable different levels
    of debug info print outs.

Work on individual project
     cd sdrender
     make vizws07=1 verbose=1 dbg=1

Note: the subdir Makefile looks very simple, only need to specify TARGET,
TARGET_OBJS, and necessary DATAFLAGS. All of the rules are in ../make.cfg.
See the line: include ../make.cfg, after the definiton of TARGETs.

     make clear, clean, clobber.

Note: because DATAFLAGS makes code compiles differently,
     see src/io/event_relayer.cpp, image_streamer.cpp and scene_manager.cpp.
So if you change the DATAFLAGS, make sure to make clean then make vizws=1.

     All individual projects included:
     sdrender: standalone volrender
     render: single remote volrender
     viewer: networked viewer
     pcaster_onsite: onsite pcaster
     pcaster_remote: remote pcaster

Feel free to develop individual projects. All the base functions are at:
     $(POFP_DIR)/src/io, net, volren, pcaster

Run Standalone volrender:
     default config file: configs/pcaster_options_sd.cfg
     cd ./bin
     sd_render [configfile, global_scale]

Run single volrender and viewer:
    default config file: configs/pcaster_optiones_render.cfg, pcaster_options_viewer.cfg
edit the config files, specify the viewer host.

    At viewer computer:
    cd ./bin
    viewer

    At remote computer:
    cd ./bin
    render

Run Pcaster Oniste:
    default config file: configs/pcaster_options.cfg
edit config file, set viewer = inplace
Onsite works on a local rendering cluster with (tiled) displays attached.
edit the config file, specify how data is divided.
    mpiexec -n 2 pcaster_onsite

Run Pcaster Remote:
    default config file: configs/pcaster_options.cfg
    viewer default config file: configs/pcaster_optiones_viewer.cfg
edit config file, set viewer = localhost or viewer hostname
edit the config file, specify how data is divided.

    At viewer computer:
    cd ./bin
    viewer

    At remote computer:
    cd ./bin
    mpiexec -n 2 pcaster_remote

Please feel free to help out, and if you make any cool changes or enhancements,
let me know! I also encourage you to sign up for the pcaster-users mailing
list, where there is a growing community of users ready to help out with
problems and ideas!
