MOFC Mof Compiler for SFCB (and other purposes)
===============================================
MOFC is a standalone Compiler for the DMTF MOF Syntax. Please
visit http://www.dmtf.org to learn more about DMTF, CIM, MOF, etc.

Building:
---------
Build and Install is pretty straightforward: unpack the tarball,
do a configure, make and make install.
This will create a (really) standalone MOF Compiler. You can test it
by invoking ./runtest.sh. In response it should say something like

MOF Compiler Version 0.6.5 (C) Copyright IBM Corp. 2004 with Default Backend
Parsing tests/test1.mof tests/test2.mof
  MOF include path=tests/include
  extra MOF file=test3.mof
  + including file tests/include/test3.mof
  + including file tests/include/test2.mof

and produce an output file named mofc.out resembling more or less the
structure of the processed MOF files. While this is neat, it is fairly
useless. Therefore you should be

Building for Real (SFCB):
-------------------------
You must have the SFCB package (built and preferably also installed) on
your system. Unpack this packages tarball in the SFCB source directory,
i.e. ~/sfcb/sfcb-0.6.1 . This will create a sub-directory named mofc-0.6.5 or
similar.

Go to the mofc subdirectory and do a ./configure --with-sfcb, make and
make install.

Executing ./runtest.sh should now produce

Except for being slightly more verbose the difference is that
mofc.out is now a binary file that can be used as classSchemas file
of the SFCB.

NOTE: Upon installation the executable will be renamed from mofc to sfcbmof.

Building Embedded in SFCB

There's also another possibility to build an SFCB version of MOFC. In case
you have received it bundled with SFCB, the SFCB configure and build will
take care for bulding MOFC. You can disregard this document in this case.

Using MOFC in an SFCB Environment
---------------------------------
One thing you have to know, is that MOFC generates class information only
for the class definitions in the MOF file it is compiling and the ancestor 
classes. So compiling CIM_Schemaxx.mof will actually result in an empty
output. This is a feature not a bug :-).

Another thing to observe, is that MOFC is truly stand alone: that means it
must be fed with information about parent classes, qualifiers and so on.
This basically means that the only meaningful invocation will look like this:

  sfcbmof -I <CIM Schema Directory> -i CIM_Schemaxx.mof your.mof [other.mof ...]

You can download the CIM Schema files from http://www.dmtf.org.

Once you have created an output file (like mofc.out) rename it to classSchemas
and copy it over to the SFCB home directory, restart sfcBroker and (hopefully)
enjoy.

BTW: If you find that you don't need bulky property qualifiers like
Description, ValueMap and Values you can use the -bq option to omit them
from the output file.
